Something unexpected happened during my face yoga practice this week.
I cried.
Not because I was upset. Not because anything bad had happened. It simply came up while I was gently massaging my face.
This had never happened to me before, although I knew it could. In the world of bodywork and somatic practices, it’s known as emotional release — when stored emotions begin to move as the body softens.
It reminded me how deeply connected our faces, bodies, and emotions truly are.

We often think of our faces as something purely external — the place where we show expression, communicate, and present ourselves to the world.
But our faces hold much more than that.
They hold experience.
They hold the little tensions we collect throughout our days. The concentration in our brow. The clenching in our jaw. The tightness around our eyes when we’re tired or overwhelmed.
Many of us live busy lives and rarely pause to check in with how we are feeling emotionally. We keep moving, keep managing, keep showing up. And without realising it, our bodies quietly store what we haven’t had the space to process.

During my practice, I was working on the area between my eyebrows — the space where the procerus and corrugator muscles sit.
This is an area where we often hold tension when we’re concentrating, worrying, or trying to control things in our lives.
As I gently softened that area with massage, something shifted.
The tears simply came.
It wasn’t sadness exactly. It felt more like letting go.
A quiet release of something I didn’t even realise I had been holding.Every single day, you store small amounts of tension.
Between your brows when you concentrate.
In your jaw when you’re stressed.
Behind your eyes when you’re tired.
Emotion doesn’t just disappear.
It settles.
Over time, that settling becomes habitual muscle tension, reduced circulation, restricted lymphatic flow — and yes, it changes how the face looks and feels.
But here’s the empowering part.
It can also change again.

One of the beautiful and often unexpected benefits of face yoga is that it goes beyond lifting and toning muscles.
Of course, face yoga helps to strengthen facial muscles, improve circulation, boost collagen production, and bring a healthy glow to the skin.
But it also reconnects us with ourselves.
When we slow down, touch our faces with intention, and soften tension in the muscles, we begin to notice things. We notice where we are holding tightness. We notice our breath. We notice our emotions.
And sometimes, when physical tension releases, emotional tension releases too.
Energy shifts.
Something softens.
And afterwards, we often feel lighter, calmer, and more connected to ourselves.

This experience reminded me that our faces carry more than expression — they carry our lives.
Taking a few minutes each day to practice face yoga is not just about how we look. It’s about how we feel in our bodies. It’s about creating a moment of presence in the middle of busy lives.
And sometimes, when we create that space, something beautiful is allowed to release.
If this has ever happened to you — or if it ever does — know that it’s completely normal.
It simply means your body feels safe enough to let go.
And that is a powerful thing.Face yoga gently moves what’s stuck:

Moments like this are a beautiful reminder that face yoga is about so much more than the surface of our skin.
It’s about reconnecting with ourselves.
Through gentle facial exercises, massage, breath, and relaxation, we can release tension, support natural facial rejuvenation, and create small moments of calm in our busy lives.
This is exactly why I created The Glow Club — a warm and supportive space where we practice face yoga together each month.
Inside the Glow Club you’ll find:
✨ Monthly live face yoga classes
✨ Techniques to lift, tone, and release facial tension
✨ Practices that support skin health and natural radiance
✨ A community of women embracing aging with confidence and care
It’s a place where we slow down, reconnect with our faces, and nurture both our inner and outer glow.
And the best part? It costs less than an impromptu trip to the shops — just $30 a month.
If you’re ready to feel more connected to your face, release tension, and support your natural glow, I would love to welcome you inside.
