From Hairdresser to Face Yoga Coach: My Journey to Confidence and Wellbeing.


Here I am, 51, reflecting on a journey that’s been full of twists, turns, and a fair few lessons learned. Let’s rewind a bit. In my early 20s, I was a hairdresser, working in beautiful salons surrounded by amazing beauty therapists. I loved skincare—I was always testing the latest products, booking facials, and trying every treatment I could. I may have been a product addict, but who isn’t a little obsessed with glowing skin?

But life wasn’t all facials and fun. My health habits were… let’s say, inconsistent. Skipped meals, junk food on the run, late nights, and, yes, a tanning bed obsession that left me more lobster than goddess. On top of that, I wrestled with self-doubt, anxiety, and a need for validation. It led to some dark times, including struggles with my body image.

Looking back, I realize that most of that insecurity lived in my own head. Those stories I told myself didn’t define me. Over time, I discovered the power of positive thinking, self-care, and connecting with my body. Slowly, I transformed—like a caterpillar turning into a butterfly.

My 30s: Embracing Change and Growth

I married at 29, but life threw me a curveball, and by 32 I was navigating divorce for the first time as an adult. Scary? Absolutely. But it was also freeing. I embraced the change and started exploring who I was, taking risks, dating, and learning lessons along the way.

By 35, I met my now-husband, and at 37, I became a mom. My daughter is my sunshine and constant teacher. Motherhood pushed me to prioritize my health, though I still indulged in facials—glowing skin is non-negotiable, after all!

I also learned the hard way that neglecting self-care affects both body and mind—migraines, fatigue, and crankiness aren’t fun. Taking charge of my health became a game-changer, and I started feeling stronger, calmer, and more in tune with myself.

My 40s: New Adventures and Rediscovering Passion

In my early 40s, I became a renovation queen! My husband and I transformed a fixer-upper into our dream home, complete with a garden studio that became my own boutique salon. Opening my salon was exhilarating—I could make my own rules and connect deeply with clients.

Then came another big adventure: moving to the USA for my husband’s work. Covid hit soon after, and my daughter had to study from home, but I made the most of it. I rekindled my love for running and explored interests in child psychology, mental wellbeing, skincare, and meditation.

Around perimenopause, I noticed sudden changes in my skin and confidence. That’s when I discovered face yoga. After incorporating it into my routine, I saw softer, firmer skin and felt calmer and more grounded. It transformed not just my appearance, but how I felt in my own skin.

Becoming a Face Yoga Coach

Inspired, I became a certified face yoga teacher with the Danielle Collins Face Yoga Method. What started as a personal journey became my mission: helping other women embrace their age, care for their skin, and feel confident at any stage of life.

Face yoga isn’t just about appearances—it’s holistic. Healthy skin comes from nourishing the body, managing stress, exercising, staying hydrated, and yes, indulging in little treats too. It’s about feeling confident, radiant, and empowered, not trying to turn back the clock.

I want midlife women to know that self-care is real, transformative, and fun. Beauty isn’t only for the young—it’s for anyone willing to show themselves some love. With face yoga, you can lift, tone, and relax your face, reduce tension, and enhance your wellbeing, inside and out.
