Now, let's talk about how our skin ages. There are many reasons why our skin can start to show signs of aging, such as weakening of facial muscles, poor lymph flow, breakdown of connective tissue, stress, losing collagen and elastin, poor circulation, excess toxins, too much sun, harsh winds and cold, certain products, poor nutrition, negativity, pollution, cigarettes, alcohol, drugs, lack of sleep, and lack of exercise. Whew, that's a lot to take in!
But don't worry, some of these factors are under our control. For example, sun damage is a major cause of aging. Those UVA (Aging rays) rays might give us a golden tan, but they penetrate deep into the dermis (middle layer of skin), where they damage the collagen fibers. UVB (Burning) rays, on the other hand, cause damage to the outer layer of skin cells, leading to sunburn. Both UVA and UVB rays can damage our skin, so we need to protect ourselves from both by wearing sunscreen with at least 30 plus and UVA +UVB protection every day.
Nutrition is another factor that can affect our skin health. Eating a healthy, balanced diet is essential at any age. Our nutrition levels and eating habits can repair damaged skin or cause damage. So, ideally we should eat whole, unprocessed foods like fruits and vegetables that are loaded with nutrients and antioxidants to prevent and slow down damage from free radicals in our body. Free radicals can be caused by pollution, poor food choices, alcohol, smoking, too much sun, and stress, which can cause many internal health problems as well as external issues such as poor skin tone on the face. Eating foods high in antioxidants, such as berries, green leafy vegetables, walnuts, and oats, can help reduce this free radical damage and improve our skin and general health.
Protein is also essential for our body because it helps to heal and repair the skin.
If we stop eating protein, our bodies will start to break down muscle for protein, leading to weakened and less defined muscles in the body and face. Good sources of protein are meat, fish, eggs, dairy products, legumes, soya, and nuts. Good fats are also important for skin health. They help break down the bad fats in our body and lubricate the skin, giving it a youthful, firm appearance. Good fats are found in salmon, avocado, nuts, seeds, and olive oil. To achieve healthy, glowing skin, we should reduce our intake of foods containing high saturated fat because they delay healing of the skin by promoting stress and inflammatory responses. DNA damage and inflammation are primary causes of skin ageing as well as other health issues.
So, my lovely friends, let's embrace ageing as a normal and beautiful part of life while taking care of our skin, health, and well-being through face yoga, sunscreen, and a healthy diet. Let's be the best version of ourselves at any age!
Keeping your skin looking healthy and glowing is not all about fancy skincare products! There are a few simple lifestyle changes that can make a huge difference in your skin health.
Let's talk about sugar. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but a high sugar diet can actually make your skin suffer. You see, sugar causes crosslinking of collagen, which leads to stiffening and loss of elasticity in the skin. That's a fancy way of saying that sugar makes your skin age faster! So, if you want to keep your skin looking young and fresh, it's time to cut down on the sweet stuff.
But it's not just sugar that can damage your skin. Processed foods and carbs like pasta, bread, and baked goods can also harm your skin's collagen. So, what should you eat instead? A Mediterranean diet full of fruits, veggies, whole grains, lean proteins, and low-fat dairy is a great option for healthy skin. You need to find a healthy balance between enjoying life and doing what is good for you as an individual.
Now, let's talk about sleep. Getting enough shut-eye is crucial for skin health. While you're snoozing, your body produces collagen and renews skin cells. Plus, your skincare products work their magic while you sleep. So, aim for 7-9 hours of sleep each night to wake up with a refreshed and glowing complexion.
Exercise is another great way to boost your skin health. When you work out, you increase blood flow, which helps nourish skin cells with oxygen and nutrients. Exercise also helps flush out toxins, reduces stress, and improves overall health.
But it's not all about what you do during the day. Deep breathing exercises can also benefit your skin health. Regular deep breathing helps decrease stress and increase calmness, which in turn increases blood flow to the face and neck area. This fresh oxygenated blood gives your skin a healthy color and vibrancy.
And last but certainly not least, hydration is key. Drinking lots of water helps keep your skin moisturized and elastic, which means fewer lines and wrinkles. Water also helps flush out toxins and reduces puffiness.
So, there you have it! A few simple lifestyle changes can make a big difference in your skin health. And if you want to take it to the next level, try The Happy Face face yoga classes.
